Some of the things we do apart from Spectrek

Helping Others
In January 2007 the Petersfield Lions were very pleased to be able to present a cheque that represented half the cost of a specialised wheelchair for a local girl. The funds had been partly raised by Lion Les Jarman as part of the Petersfield Round Table's "Up and Down" sponsored bike ride in 2006.

In 2013 we were glad to help the young lady again get an up to date chair. See Latest News for more details.

 Fetes & Fairs

Petersfield Lions raise some of their monies by attending local fêtes. The Club have a couple of stalls and fund raisers which are switched around according to the likely audience. Whilst not raising thousands fêtes are a good way to be seen in the community and stalls are easy to organise and are fun to man.

Our club ethos is to spend monies we raise not just to keep in a bank account for that one big event. The picture is of a presentation to Elizabeth Fitzroy Support which has premises in and around Petersfield. We are presenting some gardening equipment to the charity's project  in Liss.  A few years earlier our donation enabled the charity to set up a Sewing Room in the Petersfield facility where their clients could receive training and practice.
 The Social Side
All work and no play ....... That's not us.
Our meetings are effective but lighthearted and we always make certain that the diary has plenty of social items. These may be meet ups in pubs for dinner ( dinner and jazz is the current thing), a skittles night or the like. We have a Sunday pub stroll or two in the spring and summer and we are always willing to prove ourselves at quizzes.

The picture is of President Sandra and others enjoying a joke at the Thomas Lord, West Meon.

The Big Quiz

Since 1995 an annual quiz has been run in Petersfield's Festival Hall by the Eight O'Clock Club for the benefit of Holidays for Disabled People. This is no small pub quiz - there are up to 200 players in teams of 6. Petersfield Lions have very often entered a team or two and have even won.
The Petersfield Lions have a long friendly relationship with the Eight O'Clock Club. (The club formed when the Petersfield Lioness Club dissolved in the late 80's). So when the Eight O'Clock Club said that they were having to consider stopping the big quiz we offered our help. As from 2005 it became a joint event for the two Clubs and the future looks assured. The 2005 event beat all records and raised £1200 for Holidays for Disabled People.

The Quiz in 2006 was a record. We raised £1575 for Holidays for Disabled People. The winner was a team led by Paul Wickham. Paul was a Charter Lion (i.e. founder) in Petersfield some 30 years ago. In the picture Paul receives the winner's trophy from Lion President Clive.

In 2012 the quiz raised £2600 for Holidays for Disabled People.

 Helping Young People

Lions are always willing to help the young. Among other things, in 2006, the Club has helped two local youth soccer sides. We've donated training bibs to one of the many Petersfield Town Junior sides and also presented a full strip (home and away) to the Kings Arms 5 a side team. The Kings Arms is a young persons facility in the town; in effect, an alcohol free pub. It is sponsored by PACT (Petersfield Area Churches Together) and serves a vital role in providing a safe venue for young people that is controlled by themselves.

The soccer team went on to reach the final stages of a national competition. They were eliminated in the league stage before the quarter finals. But they did their Club, and ours, proud by finishing 10th out of 3000 entries!

In 2013, the Club continues to support the Kings Arms and we are also proud to be sponsors of our wonderful local Youth Theatre (Petersfield Youth Theatre) who produce a number of shows each year at near professional quality.

More Help for Young People

At the end of the summer 2007 we were able to help three local Guides attend an International Rally in Denmark.
